Privacy Policy

We take your privacy seriously around here. Here's how we handle your info when you trust us with your ride.

Overview

Look, we get it - nobody actually enjoys reading privacy policies. But since you're trusting us with your electric or hybrid vehicle (and all the tech that comes with it), we figured you'd wanna know what we do with your info.

At Luma Method Odyssey Auto Repair, we're not in the business of selling your data or bombarding you with spam. We collect what we need to fix your car, schedule your appointments, and maybe send you a reminder when it's time for that battery health check. That's pretty much it.

This policy covers our shop at 1847 Marine Drive in North Vancouver, our website, and any communication you have with us. If you've got questions after reading through this, just give us a shout at (604) 555-8742.

Personal Details

When you book an appointment or drop off your vehicle, we're gonna need some basics - your name, phone number, email address, and where you live (in case we need to reach you about your car). Pretty standard stuff.

Vehicle Information

We keep records on your ride - make, model, year, VIN number, and mileage. For electric and hybrid vehicles especially, we track battery health metrics, diagnostic codes, service history, and any warranty info that's relevant. This helps us see patterns over time and catch potential issues before they become expensive problems.

Payment Data

We process credit cards, debit cards, and e-transfers. Your full payment details go through secure payment processors - we don't store complete card numbers on our end. We keep transaction records for accounting purposes (because the tax folks require it), but that's about it.

Technical Stuff

Our website collects some automatic info like your IP address, browser type, and which pages you visited. This helps us figure out if our site's working properly and where folks are getting stuck. Nothing creepy, just basic web analytics.

We're not doing anything weird with your data. Here's what we actually use it for:

  • Service & Repairs: Can't fix your EV without knowing what's wrong with it, right? We use your vehicle data and diagnostic info to perform repairs and maintenance.
  • Appointments & Communication: We'll text or email you appointment confirmations, service updates, and the occasional "hey, your car's ready" notification.
  • Maintenance Reminders: If you've been coming to us for a while, we might reach out when it's time for your annual safety inspection or battery health check. You can opt out of these anytime.
  • Invoicing & Records: Gotta keep track of what work we did and what you paid. This helps with warranties and if you need service history for resale.
  • Improving Our Service: We look at trends in the repairs we're doing to stock the right parts and stay current with training on new EV systems.
  • Legal Requirements: Sometimes we're required to keep records for warranty claims, environmental regulations (especially for hybrid fluids and EV batteries), or if there's ever a safety recall.

That's pretty much the whole list. We're not selling your info to marketing companies or anything sketchy like that.

We take security pretty seriously around here. Here's what we've got in place:

  • Secure Systems: Our computer systems are password-protected and encrypted. We use industry-standard security software and keep everything updated.
  • Limited Access: Only our staff who actually need access to your info can see it. The guy changing your cabin air filter doesn't need your credit card details.
  • Secure Payments: We use PCI-compliant payment processors. Your card info is encrypted during transmission and we don't store full card numbers.
  • Physical Security: Paper records are locked up when not in use. Our shop has security cameras and alarm systems.
  • Staff Training: Our team knows the importance of keeping customer info confidential. It's part of their job.

No system is 100% hack-proof, but we're doing everything reasonably possible to keep your data safe. If there's ever a breach that affects your info, we'll let you know right away and work with you to sort it out.

We don't sell or rent your personal information. Period. But there are a few situations where we might need to share it:

  • Service Partners: Sometimes we need to order parts or send complex diagnostic data to manufacturers (like Tesla or Toyota) for warranty work or technical support. They only get what's necessary for that specific job.
  • Payment Processors: Your payment info goes through secure third-party processors to complete transactions. They're bound by their own strict privacy rules.
  • Legal Requirements: If we're legally required to share info (like a court order or government request), we'll comply with Canadian law. We might also share info if it's necessary to protect someone's safety.
  • Business Transfers: If we ever sold the shop or merged with another business (not planning on it, but you never know), your records would transfer to the new owner as part of business assets.
  • With Your Permission: If you want us to discuss your vehicle with your insurance company or warranty provider, we'll do that - but only with your explicit okay.

That's really it. We're not handing your email to marketing lists or anything like that. Your info stays with us unless there's a legitimate reason to share it.

Our website uses cookies - not the chocolate chip kind, unfortunately. These are small files that help the site remember you and work better.

What We Use:
  • Essential Cookies: These keep the site functioning - like remembering what's in your appointment form if you navigate away and come back.
  • Analytics Cookies: We use Google Analytics (with IP anonymization turned on) to see how people use our site. Helps us figure out what's working and what's confusing.
  • Preference Cookies: These remember your choices, like if you've dismissed a notification banner.

Most browsers let you control cookies through their settings. You can block them if you want, though some parts of the site might not work as smoothly. Check your browser's help section to learn how to manage cookies.

We don't use tracking cookies to follow you around the internet or serve you targeted ads. We're an auto shop, not a tech company.

Under Canadian privacy laws (specifically PIPEDA and BC's privacy legislation), you've got some rights when it comes to your personal info:

  • Access: You can ask to see what personal information we have about you. We'll provide it within 30 days (usually way faster).
  • Correction: If something's wrong or outdated, let us know and we'll fix it. Important for things like contact info or vehicle details.
  • Deletion: You can request we delete your info, though we might need to keep some records for legal or accounting purposes (like warranty work or tax records).
  • Opt-Out: Don't want maintenance reminders or promotional emails? No problem - just tell us and we'll stop. You can also unsubscribe from emails using the link at the bottom.
  • Data Portability: If you want a copy of your service records to take to another shop (hope you don't, but we get it), we'll provide them in a usable format.
  • Withdraw Consent: If you change your mind about how we're using your info, you can withdraw consent anytime - though this might limit what services we can provide.

To exercise any of these rights, just contact us at service@lumarethodyssey.info or call (604) 555-8742. We'll need to verify it's actually you before making changes (for security reasons), but we'll make the process as painless as possible.

If you're not happy with how we handle your privacy concerns, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. We'd rather work it out directly though!

Our services aren't directed at kids under 16. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children, and our website doesn't have features aimed at young users.

If you're a parent and think we've somehow collected info about your kid, get in touch with us immediately at service@lumarethodyssey.info and we'll delete it right away.

We might update this privacy policy from time to time - usually when laws change, we add new services, or we find better ways to protect your data.

When we make significant changes, we'll post the updated policy on our website and update the "Last Updated" date at the top. If the changes are really major, we'll send you an email or put up a notice in the shop.

We recommend checking this page occasionally if you're curious about updates. The current version is always available at lumarethodyssey.info/privacy.html.
